The Autumnal Equinox - Equilibrium, Gratitude, Preparation

The Autumnal Equinox falls on September 22. This is one of two days of the year when the day and the night are in perfect equilibrium.  Historically, this is a time to ramp up preparation for the winter, while expressing gratitude for the bounties of the summer month. This is also a time to – as the trees shed their leaves – shed any energies, habits, or relationships that are no longer serving us.

Autumnal Equinox Rituals

Gratitude journaling: Make a list of everything there is to be grateful for so far this year – your favorite memories, best meals, proudest accomplishments, funniest moments. You will be surprised by how quickly they all add up! Take time to reflect on this gratitude and try to maintain that energy through the rest of the year.

Cleanse your space and yourself: It is important to refresh and rejuvenate energies at every turning point, to allow yourself a clean slate to begin each new era. Use a cleansing herb bundle to clear the energy of your home, and of your own body. Place clear quartz points throughout your space to keep your newly cleansed energy clear and bright!

Organize and donate old clothes and other belongings: Shed your belongings like the trees shed their leaves! Take the time to sort through your possessions and remove what no longer serves you. Donate items that are in good shape to continue to spread abundance throughout your community.

Make a crystal grid with manifestations for the new season: Practice intuitive crystal gridding by placing the crystals your are drawn to in a pattern on a designated grid, or even throughout your home or on your body! As you place your crystals, set intentions for the season and for the rest of the year.

Spend time with nature: The Autumnal Equinox marks the start of nature’s journey towards the barren months of winter. Use this time to appreciate the last warm days of the year by spending time outdoors – in the forest, in an open field, in the water – wherever makes you feel wonderous of Mother Earth!

Cook a meal: Throughout history, the Autumnal Equinox has been a celebration of the harvest. Channel this energy of your ancestors through cooking a meal to share with friends or family. Try to incorporate locally grown ingredients that are in peak season – a local farmer’s market is a great place to source this!
